The Eurasian Griffon Vulture chick of the Zoo of Duisburg is five weeks old now! And as you can see on the following pictures it's growing very, very fast, especially the wings with the little feathers. I guess the chicks wingspan is one or even one and a half metre by now! Feathers are growing up to 7 mm per day, unbelievable! ("Vultures of Africa" by Mundy)
Stretching...
some more stretching...
It's not easy keeping balance with a full crop and giant wings...
"Carrion! Like to get carrion!!! Feed me!"
A soft guinea fowl as dessert!? ;-)
It seems to me the cute chick needs a pedicure and nails cut! Happy feet!
No wonder the chick loses balance with such a full crop.
Gorgeous wings with a wonderful feathers ornament!
Daddy-vulture had an hour off during my visit. Time for cleaning his plumage, but always keeping an eye on the nest and the porcupines.
How tiring eating and stretching is!
Time for snoozing and snuggle into vulture-mommys fluffy plumage...
Tired vulture family!
