40 days old Eurasian Griffon Vulture chick

The early vulture gets the carcass!
When ariving in the Zoo of Duisburg in the morning, the Eurasian Griffon Vulture chick got some tasty regurgitated carcasses.
All the time the vulture-parents watched the agressive porcupines very sceptically.
Family vulture unified in the nest. No wonder they don't like to leave their wonderful chick...
The chick is growing so fast that the nest became to small. That's why the parents collected many new sticks and branches to make the nest more comfortable.
Carrion go! Next to such a big carcass vulture-daddy looks really tiny ;-)
On Wednesday I was talking to a zookeeper about my wonderful time at VulPro in South Africa and I told him about the cute Dikkop sitting next to my room every morning. The zookeeper told me there are Dikkops in Zoo of Duisburg, too!!! Why did I never see them, although they are living in an enclosure next to the vultures!?
Back at the nest the chick was cuddling with vulture-mommy.
Vulture-daddy.
 Giant chick!!!
To keep the nest clean the chick (and it's parents) squirt their poo outside...
Can't take my eyes off of this sweetheart!!!
Everytime the porcupines came to close to the nest the vulture-parents did not hesitate attacking them to protect their chick.
But the chick did felt very safe when sitting in the nest all alone. Just few seconds after the parents left it cheeped very helplessly... until the parents came back.
Funny posture:
Back of the vulture chick.
First attempt to fly!?
Some stretching exercises.
Cleaning the plumage.
Haf-empty crop and big foot.
I would love to cuddle this fluffy "ball"!!!
How hard it is to leave this wonderful chick...
