16 days old Eurasian Griffon Vulture chick

Good decision going to the Zoo of Duisburg although there were many, many dark clouds in the sky.... Right after arriving at the zoo the sun came out to warm the wet feathers of the Eurasian Griffon Vultures.
Vulture-daddy was sitting in the nest and the cute chick was cuddling his claw while sleeping. It seems to me the little chick quadrupled itself since my last visit three days ago. Already half the size of a big chicken! It's fledging very soon ;-) Vulture-mommy kept watch next to the nest, cause the porcupines inside the enclosure were very aggressive today and came to the nest very close. To protect her chick the vulture-parents dasked at the porcupines, angrily hissing and stretching their neck. Very brave!!! The porcupines got impressed by the vulture-parents and suddenly ran away. Well done! After defeating the porcupines the vulture-parents changed their position in the nest, vulture-daddy sat down on a trunk and vulture-mommy cared for their chick. The chick was very hungry and vulture-mommy had to regurgitate a lot of meat.Carrion go! When finishing early dinner it started raining and the chick crawled away under the warm and dry feathers of vulture-mommy. Wish I could lie next to the chick... it's so cute!!! His crop was bulging and I was sure when trying to stand up it would lose balance and tilt forwards on his tiny beak!Few minutes later the chick exhausted fell asleep. Cute, those tiny wings......in contrast to the big foot! What a gorgeous creature!!!
