Egg check

After a while I went to the Zoo of Duisburg today to see the Eurasian Griffon Vultures egg. I think it will be an Easter Vulture, but I wanted to be on the safe side not to miss the hatching.
Barely arrived at the enclosure I saw mommy-vulture standing next to her egg and laying down few seconds later,
while daddy-vulture was sitting on a stone, arranging his feathers. Even the pushy guineafowls, who get fatter and louder every time, did not manage to disturb the relaxed vultures.
Mommy-vulture seemed to be very tired of breading, 'cause she was yawning, had some naps or was just arranging some tiny sticks inside her nest.It is time for the baby-vulture to hatch!!!
After a while daddy-vulture came close to the nest, mommy-vulture stood up to show him the big egg, and lay down again when daddy-vulture limped to the feeding place. There he laid down in the sun and his lady kept on breeding.
Highlight of the day was inside the second vulture enclosure next to the newly opened snackbar where you can sit on a terrace watching the Eurasion Griffon Vultures now: A new vulture's nest!!! With an egg inside!!! But the vultures weren't breeding, but laying in the sun at the other side of the enclosure! My heart skipped a beat... left alone and without protection the egg seemed to be gone dead .-( But then I had the idea it might be just a dummy-egg to stimulate the vultures to start breeding. Few minutes later a zoo keeper confirmed my guess and told me the egg is a fake! Unfortunately the vultures didn't pay attention to the egg. Well, maybe they are still too young or just not in love!?
